Seamless steel pipe size and weight chart
Outside diameter, wall thickness and theoretical weight for the sizes we quote most often — NPS 1″ to NPS 10″ (33.4–273.1 mm) and the Chinese standard 89 / 102 / 114 mm diameters. Weight per metre, per 6 m and per 12 m length, so you can size an order and a container without waiting for a reply.
NPS 1″ – 10″: outside diameter, wall and weight
The sizes below are the ones we quote most often for fluid, boiler and line pipe service. Weight is theoretical, calculated from the outside diameter and wall thickness.

Schedule numbers are not printed here on purpose: the same NPS can be rolled in several wall thicknesses, and the wall — not the schedule label — decides the weight and the price. Tell us the wall you need and we match it.
Chinese standard diameters (89 / 102 / 114 mm) — heavy wall
These outside diameters are the usual Chinese mill sizes for mechanical, hydraulic and high-pressure service, normally supplied in heavier walls.
| Size (OD × wall, mm) | Weight (kg/m) | Weight per 6 m (kg) | Weight per 12 m (kg) |
|---|---|---|---|
| 89 × 12 | 22.79 | 136.72 | 273.43 |
| 89 × 16 | 28.8 | 172.82 | 345.63 |
| 89 × 20 | 34.03 | 204.18 | 408.37 |
| 89 × 25 | 39.46 | 236.74 | 473.47 |
| 102 × 8 | 18.54 | 111.27 | 222.53 |
| 102 × 10 | 22.69 | 136.12 | 272.25 |
| 102 × 12 | 26.63 | 159.8 | 319.59 |
| 102 × 20 | 40.44 | 242.65 | 485.31 |
| 102 × 25 | 47.47 | 284.82 | 569.65 |
| 114 × 12 | 30.18 | 181.1 | 362.21 |
| 114 × 16 | 38.67 | 232 | 464 |
Theoretical weights. Actual shipment weight is confirmed on the mill certificate and the loading tally, and can differ by 1–3% because of wall and length tolerances.
Weight formula
Weight per metre (kg/m) = (outside diameter − wall thickness) × wall thickness × 0.02466
Example: 168.3 × 7.11 mm → (168.3 − 7.11) × 7.11 × 0.02466 = 28.26 kg/m. A 6 m length weighs about 169.6 kg; 100 lengths come to about 17.0 tonnes.
Order weight
Weight per metre × length × number of pieces. Add 1–3% if you are sizing a truck or a container, because the mill weighs actual pipe, not theoretical pipe.
Send the line list and we return the weight calculation with the quotation — it costs you nothing and avoids an overweight container.
Container loading
A 20 ft container holds about 25 tonnes. Light walls run out of volume before they run out of weight; heavy walls run out of weight first. We issue a loading plan with bundles, pieces and total weight before the booking is made.
Grades these sizes are quoted in
| Chinese grade and standard | Closest international equivalent | Typical service |
|---|---|---|
| 20# to GB/T 8163 | ASTM A106 Gr.B · EN 10216-2 P265GH | Fluid transmission, general piping |
| 20# to GB 3087 | ASTM A106 Gr.B · DIN 17175 St45.8 | Boiler and superheater tubes |
| 20# to GB 9948 | ASTM A106 Gr.B · ASTM A179 / A192 | Heat exchanger and condenser tubes |
| API 5L Gr.B / X42 | ISO 3183 L245 / L290 | Oil and gas line pipe |
| Alloy A335 P11 / P22 / P91 | EN 10216-2 10CrMo9-10 / 13CrMo4-5 / X10CrMoVNb9-1 | High temperature and pressure service |
Equivalent grades are given to help you compare specifications; the standard named on the purchase order and the mill certificate governs the delivery.
Size and weight questions buyers ask
How is the weight in this table calculated?
How do I convert a pipe order into tonnes?
How many metres of pipe fit in one container?
What is the difference between NPS and millimetres?
Which wall thicknesses can you quote?
Which grades are these sizes supplied in?
Send your line list — a firm quotation follows.
Send the standard, outside diameter, wall thickness, grade, quantity and destination port. If you only have a tender document or a piping class, send that instead — we will read it and come back with the pipe specification.
